Queen Elizabeth II with David Cregeen viewing his solo exhibition was held at the Royal Commonwealth Club, London, in honour of Her late Majesty's eightieth birthday.

The portrait head of the late Queen was sculpted as Head of The Commonwealth for The Commonwealth and for 'Faces in History' commissioned by The AMS Foundation, for Arts, Sciences and Humanities, Washington DC. The sculpture was created from life with 5 sittings with The late Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The sculpture was inspired by Ballet Rambert's rival of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballet 'The Rite of Spring' with music by Igor Stravinsky. The part of The Chosen Maiden was danced by Ballet Rambert's soloist, Sally Owen. The sculpture was created during the period that Cregeen was 'artist in residence' with Ballet Rambert.
